Pericarditis
SYMPTOMS. There may be sharp or dull pain under the breastbone of the chest,
weakness, fever and chills. There may also be nonproductive coughing and
quick, shallow breathing.
CAUSES. The sac enclosing the heart becomes inflamed. This may be caused by
uremia, tumor or rheumatic or other heart disease. It may also follow a bone
or other infection or pneumonia.
TREATMENT. Antibiotics and other medication may be prescribed.
.Fluid may have to be drawn from the sac.
